When Is A New York Oversize Permit Required?
A permit is generally required if a truck or load exceeds any of these legal dimensions:
- Width over 8’6”
- Height over 13’6”
- Gross vehicle weight over 80,000 lbs
- Trailer or combination length exceeding legal limits
- Axle weights above New York bridge formula allowances
In New York City, additional restrictions apply, including tighter overall length limitations and designated truck routes.
